Irregular & heavy periods treatment in Ranchi.

Periods that are heavy, missed, unpredictable or painful are common — and they are not something you simply have to live with. The key is finding the cause, then treating it.

In short: Irregular, heavy or painful periods are among the most common reasons women see a gynaecologist — and they are very treatable. At Medifirst, Bariatu, Dr. Anshu Agarwal finds the cause (often PCOS, fibroids, thyroid or hormonal imbalance) with simple tests, then treats it — from lifestyle and medication to keyhole surgery where needed — so your cycle, and your life, settle down.

Quick answers

Period problems, in brief

What counts as a problem

Periods that are heavy, missed, too frequent, unpredictable or very painful, or bleeding between periods.

Common causes

PCOS, fibroids, thyroid or hormonal imbalance, polyps, or stress and weight changes.

How it’s treated

Treating the cause — lifestyle, medication, or a keyhole procedure if there’s a fibroid or polyp.

When to see a doctor

Heavy bleeding, flooding or clots, periods lasting over 7 days, or bleeding between periods.

01 / Understanding it

Why your cycle goes wrong

A period that is heavy, irregular, too frequent or very painful is your body signalling that something is off balance — and in most cases it is something common and treatable, not dangerous. But “just living with it” means missing both the relief and the chance to catch a cause early.

The usual culprits are hormonal: PCOS, thyroid problems, or the natural shifts of adolescence and perimenopause. Others are structural: fibroids or polyps in the uterus causing heavy bleeding. Stress, weight change and certain medications play a part too.

Dr. Agarwal starts by finding the cause — a history, examination, blood tests and often an ultrasound — then treats it directly. That might be lifestyle and medication to regulate the cycle, treatment for thyroid or PCOS, or a keyhole procedure to remove a fibroid or polyp. Heavy bleeding that causes anaemia is treated promptly.

02 / Is treatment right for you?

When to get your periods checked

Some irregularity is normal, but these are worth a visit — and often an easy fix.

See a doctor if you have

  • Very heavy bleeding, flooding or large clots
  • Periods lasting longer than 7 days
  • Bleeding between periods or after sex
  • Periods so painful they stop your day
  • Missed or very unpredictable cycles

How period problems are treated

  • Finding the cause — tests and an ultrasound
  • Treating PCOS, thyroid or hormonal imbalance
  • Medication to regulate the cycle and reduce bleeding
  • Treating anaemia from heavy bleeding
  • Keyhole removal of a fibroid or polyp, if found
If the cause is PCOS, our PCOS care covers it in full; heavy bleeding from fibroids may need keyhole surgery.

Period problem questions

What causes heavy or irregular periods?
Common causes are hormonal — PCOS, thyroid problems, or the shifts of adolescence and perimenopause — or structural, like fibroids or polyps. Stress, weight change and some medications also play a part. Finding the exact cause is the first step.
When is heavy bleeding a problem?
See a doctor if you are flooding or passing large clots, periods last more than 7 days, you bleed between periods or after sex, or heavy bleeding is leaving you tired (a sign of anaemia). These are common and treatable.
Can irregular periods be fixed without surgery?
Usually, yes. Most irregular and heavy periods are treated with medication and by correcting the underlying cause (such as PCOS or thyroid). Surgery is only needed when there is a fibroid or polyp that must be removed.
Are painful periods normal?
Mild cramps are normal, but pain severe enough to stop your day is not something to simply endure — it can signal endometriosis or another treatable cause, and should be checked.
Could irregular periods affect my fertility?
They can, because irregular ovulation is a common cause of both. The good news is that treating the cause (often PCOS) frequently restores both regular cycles and fertility.
Is treatment covered by insurance?
Out-patient care is usually paid directly and is inexpensive. Any procedure is covered by most health-insurance policies, with cashless facility at Medifirst.
