Foot & ankle pain treatment in Ranchi.

Every step matters. A twisted ankle, stubborn heel pain, swelling, or pain that makes walking hard — foot and ankle problems are common, and most get you walking comfortably again with the right care.

In short: Foot and ankle pain comes from sprains and fractures, heel pain (plantar fasciitis), tendon problems, arthritis, swelling and deformities. At Medifirst, Bariatu, our orthopaedic surgeons diagnose the cause and treat most without surgery — supports, physiotherapy, footwear advice and injections — with surgery for fractures that need fixing, or deformities and arthritis that don’t settle.

Quick answers

Foot & ankle pain, in brief

Common causes

Sprains, fractures, heel pain (plantar fasciitis), tendon problems, arthritis and swelling.

Ankle sprain

A twisted ankle — common, usually settles, but worth checking to rule out a fracture.

Heel pain

Classic first-step morning pain is usually plantar fasciitis — very treatable.

Treatment

Support, physiotherapy, footwear and injections for most; surgery for fractures and deformity.

01 / Understanding it

What’s causing your foot or ankle pain

Our feet carry us through the day, so pain there is both common and limiting. Most foot and ankle problems have a clear, treatable cause — and getting the diagnosis right avoids both unnecessary worry and unnecessary surgery.

The usual causes are ankle sprains (a twist that overstretches the ligaments); fractures after a fall or awkward landing; heel pain, most often plantar fasciitis (the classic first-step pain in the morning); Achilles and other tendon problems; arthritis; swelling from injury or other causes; and deformities like flat feet or bunions. A sprain and a fracture can feel similar, so after a significant injury an X-ray settles it.

Treatment starts with the least invasive effective option: rest, support or bracing, physiotherapy, the right footwear or insoles, and targeted injections for conditions like plantar fasciitis. A fracture is set and, where needed, fixed; persistent deformity or arthritis is treated surgically when conservative care isn’t enough — getting you back on your feet.

02 / Is treatment right for you?

What kind of foot or ankle problem?

Accurate diagnosis first — most problems don’t need surgery.

Surgery may be needed if

  • A fracture that needs setting or fixing
  • An unstable ankle after repeated sprains
  • A deformity (bunion, flat foot) causing pain
  • Arthritis not settling with conservative care
  • A tendon rupture needing repair

Non-surgical first for

  • Most ankle sprains
  • Heel pain / plantar fasciitis
  • Swelling that settles with treatment
  • Problems responding to footwear, insoles or injection
A fracture after a fall or accident is treated as trauma — with X-ray on site, 24×7.

Foot & ankle questions

How do I know if my ankle is sprained or broken?
They can feel similar — both cause pain and swelling after a twist or fall. After a significant injury, an X-ray (available on site at Medifirst) settles it. A sprain is treated with support and rehabilitation; a fracture is set or fixed.
What causes heel pain in the morning?
Classic first-step pain in the morning is usually plantar fasciitis — inflammation of the band under the foot. It is very treatable with stretching, the right footwear or insoles, and an injection for stubborn cases.
Do I need surgery for a bunion or flat feet?
Not usually. Many deformities are managed with footwear, insoles and physiotherapy. Surgery is considered when a deformity causes pain that doesn’t settle with these measures.
How long does an ankle sprain take to heal?
Most ankle sprains settle over a few weeks with support and rehabilitation. Repeated sprains or ongoing instability are worth assessing, as they can sometimes benefit from further treatment.
My foot keeps swelling — should I get it checked?
Yes. Persistent foot swelling has causes worth identifying — from injury to other conditions — so it is assessed properly rather than ignored.
Is treatment covered by insurance?
Surgical treatment is covered by most policies, with cashless facility at Medifirst. Out-patient care is usually paid directly and is inexpensive.
